A Dog Day Afternoon.....

First Heat

So, here it is, Leah is now 15 months old and has hit her first heat. She hasn't been eating the last couple of meals and just mopes around the house. Joe took her to the dog park today not realizing she was in heat and she got into an altercation with another dog with Leah being the aggressor towards a male. Joe immediately left the park after making sure that the other dog was not hurt. Leah has also been aggressive towards our other intact female....is this "normal" or is it just "PMS?"

Look at me! Today I am one year old. I weigh 69 pounds and stand 25" tall (that is the closest my mom can get). I am a happy girl and enjoy running in the park and chasing the cats and Bella!

My folks are happy that now my "problems" are over with....quite frankly, so am I! I didn't like getting all those baths!

Wow! SESSA/MAC Show

On October 13th, Miss Leah did well at her second show! She got 1st in class (okay, she was the only one); Best of Breed; Winner's Bitch; and Best of Winners! All in the puppy class. What a wonderful experince, we met a lot of great people...again! And Maggie Valley was beautiful.

Leah's Six Months Old!!!

Miss Leah turned 6 months on May 3. She has gotten a lot longer and much taller. We don't know how much she weighs, but our guess is 65 pounds. She goes to her first handling class on Saturday and starts obedience on Thursdays.

We cannot get over how well behaved Leah is, she has never given us a bit of trouble and only gets the puppy crazies once and a while! We love her and can't wait until she gets her full height and weight!

Bella Noelle

This is Bella. Bella is a rescue from a horder. We got her two Christmas's ago. I came home for lunch one day and there she was hiding in the bathroom. Bella is a scrounger. She loves her treats, she has a Napoleon complex, and seems to think she is the alpha dog. She may be small, but she certainly holds her own. She sits on all the big dog's heads and "attacks" them. She is only 5 pounds but she throws her weight around! :-)

Simoun Darkwind de Bonheur (2/22/99 - present)

So, this is Simoun. She watches over all of us here. She leads me down the stairs at night to show me where to go potty. Sometimes she snarls at me but only because I push her a little too much. Some day I would like to be just like her....well not so much with the snarling.

Simoun is very protective of Bella. I'm beginning to wonder if Bella runs to her on purpose so that I get in trouble. Simoun misses Brigette very much and I hope that I can fill the gap. Boy that dog Brigette must have been some dog....everyone here talks about her all the time.

This is Brigette. I never met her, but my mommy tells me how wonderful she was. Mommy and daddy have done rescue for a long time and Brigette was always willing to share her home with new animals. She made sure that everyone learned the ropes and were able to go to their new home well trained. Mommy and daddy truly miss Brigette and I am sorry that I did not have an opportunity to meet her. Hopefully I will be able to help them through this difficult time and bring them new happy memories.

My human family consists of Joe, Maya & Kerri (well...sometimes Kerri....she lives down at school most of the time).

My animal kingdom friends are many and varied....there is Simoun the black Belgain Tervuren who keeps me in line; Bella the Chihauhau who has changed into a shark and DOESN'T like me playing with her toys; D'Artagnan the black cat whom I have actually never met, but mommy says he comes out at night and plays with her feet; Gyzmo the blue persian who has stopped hiding from me and now looks at me like he wants to rip my eyes out....I tend to stay away from him....; and then, there's Ecko the African Grey who whistles when daddy calls me.

I have been here almost a week and I have met a few people....seen new places (well, just one, and that would be the vet's office where one lady coo'd all over me saying she wanted one just like me)....and made myself quite at home. Daddy tries to take me for a walk around the neighborhood, but I get tired pretty quickly so I just stretch out on the ground and look up at him...he thinks I'm cute when I do that.

Mommy told me that we would be seeing lots of friends in a few weeks, I can hardly wait. I am looking forward to seeing others who can worship me like I deserve!
